PARTICIPATORY PUPPETRY & STORY

Hedgerow Puppets

Participatory puppet performances and workshops that invite connection, creativity, and shared meaning through story and play.

Created by puppetry artist Naomi Schulz

At the Hedgerow

I am a puppetry artist whose work is shaped by a lifelong relationship with craft, landscape, and folk storytelling. I grew up in rural Ireland, surrounded by stone walls, changing weather, and stories carried in place, and was raised in a household where making things by hand was ordinary and essential.I am drawn to handmade forms, simple materials, and minimal staging, and to work that unfolds through attention and care. My performances rely on presence, pacing, and live responsiveness rather than spectacle, allowing space for listening, noticing, and shared imagination.

What It’s Like in the Room

Performances are intimate, playful, and shaped by the people present. Audiences are invited to listen, respond, and take part at their own pace—no one is put on the spot. There is room for laughter, quiet moments, and shared attention, and no two gatherings are exactly the same.Participation is offered as an invitation rather than an expectation, allowing the work to meet people where they are and unfold in conversation with the room.

Workshops
Participatory workshops that extend the themes of the performances through simple puppet-making, creative prompts, and shared storytelling. Workshops can stand alone or be paired with performances.
